State Troopers stationed in Onslow County attempted to stop a man on highway 17 South. Then, they say he jumped out of the car with a gun, crossed a four lane highway, then ran into these woods. Troopers believe he's a convicted felon and may have a gun. It happened just feet from Dixon Middle School. That put Dixon Middle and High School on a complete lockdown for several hours, as the Highway Patrol, Military Police and Sheriffs Dept. combed the woods for the suspect. The driver was clocked 30 miles over the speed limit. Authorities say supposedly he was recently released from prison and should not be carrying a firearm. Three others were inside the stolen car. They tell Troopers they had no knowledge of what was going on. The suspect was last seen near NC 210. Dixon Middle and High School released their students around 3:30 this afternoon. Police say the suspect is armed and potentially dangerous. If you see him, call authorities immediately.
